What is Membership?
Because belonging is biblical—God designed the Christian life to be lived in community, not isolation.
Joining a church isn’t about signing up for another organization, it’s about becoming part of a spiritual family. Think about the difference between a guest and a family member. A guest visits, enjoys the meal, and leaves when it’s convenient. A family member, however, helps set the table, washes dishes, and shares both the responsibilities and the blessings of home. That’s what church membership is, it’s choosing to belong, not just attend.
Why Become a Member?
Biblically, there are several clear reasons to join a church:
For Shepherding and Spiritual Oversight-God places pastors and leaders to care for our souls (Hebrews 13:17). We all need spiritual guidance and protection.
To Grow in Maturity Through Teaching & Discipleship-The church helps believers mature through sound teaching and Christ-centered discipleship (Ephesians 4:11–13).
To Commit to a Family-God never intended for us to live the Christian life alone. The church is the household of God (Ephesians 2:19).
To Practice Mutual Accountability -We need brothers and sisters who can lovingly correct, encourage, and walk beside us (Galatians 6:1–2).
To Fulfill the “One Another” Commands-Love one another, serve one another, forgive one another, these commands only make sense in committed community (John 13:34–35).
To Join God’s Mission in a Tangible Way and Use Your Gifts-The local church is how God reaches the world. Every believer has been given spiritual gifts to serve others and build up the body of Christ (1 Peter 4:10; Romans 12:4-8). Together, we serve, give, and go (Matthew 28:19-20).
